• In the 1990s, the singles charts were dominated by boy bands and girl groups like Take That, and Spice Girls
• Alternative rock reached the mainstream, which led to the commercial success of Britpop bands like Blur and Oasis; followed by a stream of post-Britpop bands like Snow Patrol and Coldplay.

Coldplay are an English alternative rock band from London, formed in 1998.

Members: Chris Martin (lead vocals, keyboards, guitar), Jonny Buckland (lead guitar), Guy Berryman (bass guitar), and Will Champion (drums, backing vocals, other instruments).

The Spice Girls were a British pop girl group formed in 1994. The group consisted of five members, who each later adopted nicknames: Melanie Brown ("Scary Spice"), Melanie Chisholm ("Sporty Spice"), Emma Bunton ("Baby Spice"), Geri Halliwell ("Ginger Spice"), and Victoria Beckham ("Posh Spice").

They were first named 'Touch' but they decided to change it and one of them thought about Spice because of how different they were from each other. They all dressed differently, acted differently... but there was already a rapper called Spice so they had to change it to Spice Girls.

• Mix of different forms of music and influences to dominate rock and pop music

Led Zeppelin were an English rock band formed in London in 1968. The band consisted of guitarist Jimmy Page, singer Robert Plant, bassist and keyboardist John Paul Jones, and drummer John Bonham.

They were originally going to be called The New Yardbirds until The Who's drummer Keith Moon remarked they would go down like a "lead zeppelin". 

Between 1971 and 1975 Led Zeppelin could justifiably claim to be the biggest band in the world

Queen are an English rock band formed in London in 1970, originally consisting of Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals), John Deacon (bass guitar), and Roger Taylor (drums, vocals).

. The group is well known for its sports anthems and classic rock radio staples, particularly the hits 'We Are the Champions' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody'

 Queen are widely recognised as pioneers of heavy metal, glam rock, and stadium rock.
